Balanced Leadership in a

Diverse County

La Plata County has a diverse population that requires and deserves balanced leadership on the Board of County Commissioners. It’s part of what makes the County interesting. Brad Blake is a moderate, common sense, hardworking long time citizen of La Plata County. What you see is what you get.

Clean Air and Water

Brad was the only County Commissioner to visit the superfund sites around the state to make an informed decision on how to best manage the Bonita superfund site. He traveled to D.C. twice to bring local influence about helping to clean up the rivers, testifying before the U.S. Senate on one of these trips.

Better Forest Management

Through proactive forest management, an opportunity exists to create healthier forests. Brad understands how vital healthy forests are to our lifestyle and our community.

Forward Thinking

Brad’s decision making is guided by a principle of thinking what would be in the best long-term interests of the County in the future, not just the short term costs and benefits.

Family Friendly County

La Plata County is a great place to raise your family as we sit in the heart of the country’s outdoor playground. Good education, good experiences, clean forests, air and water.

Business Friendly

Having been in business for almost 30 years in La Plata County, Brad has seen the changes that need to be made at the County level to make it easier for businesses to expand and launch. Decreasing costs for permitting, both in terms of time and money, would help to create a friendlier business climate.

Land Use Code

La Plata County needs a land use code that enhances property values and property rights for land owners. La Plata County could and should do better than we have done in the past to make people’s business dreams come true. Brad advocates streamlining the administrative permitting process beyond the progress accomplished during his tenure.

Raising Families

After raising three sons and now two granddaughters being raised in La Plata County, we feel that it’s very important to have a wonderful community for our children to grow up in. We’ve got to keep looking ahead to the next 25 years.

Family Values

Having both grown up in La Plata County and now being happily married for 35 years, Brad and Janelle feel a distinct privilege to be able to serve the County and its families. Brad supports ensuring that families have the resources and ability to make the opportunities for the next generations in La Plata County better than they are now.

Homelessness

Brad has worked hard to find an appropriate solution for this issue that is compassionate yet brings safety to our community. His work includes collaborating with the County and City of Durango … scouting multiple locations for a provide entity to develop long-term housing for the homeless.

Affordable Housing

La Plata County needs to work on ensuring that we plan for and create affordable housing solutions for our workforce for both current and future needs.
